INNOVATION INDEX |
NESTA is developing the Innovation Index, a major project that will improve the way the UK measures investment in innovation and its effects. The aim is to make a significant improvement on existing metrics, both by making clear the contribution of innovation to productivity and growth, and by capturing 'hidden innovation'.
In March 2008, the Government published the White Paper 'Innovation Nation'. In the Paper, the Government asked NESTA to develop a new Innovation Index, which would more accurately measure innovation in the UK's increasingly important services sectors, creative industries and in the delivery of public services.
You can download the report from the NESTA site.

THE NATIONAL CREATIVE INDUSTRIES CONFERENCE |
The National Creative Industries Conference took place down in London at the end of November. From the current Minister, Sion Simon, and the shadow Secretary of State, Jeremy Hunt, there were warm words about the importance of the sector to the economy.
Notable comments from other panellists included Greg Dyke wanting to move Parliament to Sheffield to decentralise Government and Charles Arthur, Technology Editor - Guardian, commenting in the same session that Sheffield has a lot of positive activity in the Creative and Digital Industries. We also got the opportunity to raise the question to the BBC of releasing the BBC iplayer platform for businesses to utilise under licence.
The full conference bulletin outlines the hot topics and discussions from the workshops and plenary sessions which can be downloaded from here.
